Even though Nancy Groff knew the Vermont Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing was facing tough financial realities she was still surprised about the center's abrupt closing in September. Groff worked for the VCDHH Interpreter Referral Service, and she was told on Sept. 9 that the center was going to close its doors at the end of the week. City Council approved a contract for sale of property on South College Street to the Senior Deaf and Blind Community during Monday’s monthly council meeting. This purchase has been in the works for three years now, according to Sam Avery, board member for the Senior Deaf and Blind Community. The completed project will offer more than 60 one- and two-bedroom apartment homes with monthly rents ranging from $850 to $1,200, as well as several small common spaces, according to brochures. / The News Herald

It was Aug. 22 when Harald Vik left a Sioux Falls motel on the second day of a planned trip by tandem bicycle to Lincoln, Neb. It was a month ago that he traveled to New York City to take part in the marathon there. In between, the blind-deaf Norwegian spent weeks hospitalized and in a rehabilitation center after he was injured when his bicycle was hit from behind by a Jeep.We're talking multiple broken bones. On the northern end of Lafayette is where you will find Amelia Manor Nursing Home. Some of the residents are in wheelchairs, some are confined to their beds. • Provide tutoring support for deaf and hard-of-hearing students enrolled in Engineering or Engineering Technology courses in the College of Applied Science and Technology and the College of Engineering.
• Provide direct instruction at the introductory level in our Applied Mechanical Technology associate degree program
• Develop curriculum for existing programs and/or potential new programs.
• Perform research and publish results in peer-reviewed journals in scholarship of teaching and learning, or engineering-related journals.
