YOU CAN NOW TEXT 911 IN AN EMERGENCY
If you're deaf or in an emergency where you can't speak, getting a hold of 911 is problematic. In just a few hours, the nation's leading mobile providers will start the support of texting to 911 for emergencies in certain areas. The providers supporting the service include AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless. For the time being, only certain states and counties have call centers that support 911 texting, but the goal is to get this service rolled out nationwide as soon as possible. If you're located in an area that will allow the service, make sure you provide your location when texting 911. / Lifehacker

EVEN IN DEATH, TEACHER INSPIRES CHANGE
Mark Gobble was a father, a teacher, business owner, and a Ph.D. candidate who managed to find the time and climb Mount Everest between it all. Instead, Hussey can only wonder what those accomplishments may have been. One day before his 38th birthday [in June 2012], Gobble was killed in a hit-and-run accident while he was out on a morning jog. / KXAN

MEET MY MOM
Mother's Day is a reason to celebrate moms and the incredible influence they have on our lives. My mom, Jane, is a sign-language interpreter and interpreter educator. From a young age, she taught my sisters and me the importance of treating everyone the same and the value of being an ally to people who are marginalized for their physical differences. She also taught us a little sign language - and, in honor of Mother's Day, my amazing mom and I made this special video. / Cain for Congress

Thamsanqa Jantjie’s brush with celebrity should have been fleeting.
